Every Thursday [Philippine time] I would pay a visit to the main post office to claim parcels and packages that were sent with the customs forms on them, you see any envelope no matter how small gets stuck at the main post office when they have the attached green custom's form. So it'd take a while for me to get them ... ever since I joined swap-bot I have been getting and sending loads and loads of mails on a close to daily basis. So lets take a look at them now shall we?

My Very First Dotee Doll

I am in a swap over at swap-bot created for those who almost failed Home Economics back in high school and it was challenging, I don't know about you but I can neither cook nor sew they're just no my cup of tea and it scary but I managed to create my very first dotee doll. True it doesn't hold a candle to the gorgeous ones created by pros over at flickr but I made it on my own, my very first and it's the effort and the thought that counts. Right? lol ... Just say yes ok? Bwahahaha anyways lets look at it ....

I took a photo of the items I have assembled for my kawaii bento swap over at swap-bot and I was really excited about it. I thought I went above and beyond with what I have picked; I thought the Hello Kitty face bento box was really cute so I bought it and didn't mind that it cost me 12.50 USD but apparently they weren't up to standards of what's kawaii and what's not.

The swap requirements stated: Fill the box with fun, bento and kawaii related items. Feel free to include things too big to fit in the box. (Bento accessories, kawaii stationary, Japanese snacks).

I thought a Monokuro Boo letter pad would be considered a kawaii stationery and I also thought this was sender's choice but apparently since my partner only collects a certain design she didn't appreciate them. I understand her distress and disappointment when my package arrived in such a mess but to be told the items I sent her were just randomly thrown together was disheartening. I checked over her flickr photos and saw that the mug had indeed broken to which am terribly sorry but to be questioned if they cost 10 USD was just ... *sigh* never mind. I should have known better than to join swaps with specific amounts; things are priced differently in each location.

When I joined the swap I didn't know we were to look for specific kawaii items our assigned partners like. I will assemble another package for her this would probably be the most distressing and expensive swap I have ever joined.

Lesson learned this time ... my idea of kawaii definitely didn't meet other people's standard. *sigh*

I Love Cupcake

Ever since I joined swap-bot.com and joined in swaps and tags I've discovered that I actually love making swap cards and addy labels for myself and for my swap partners basing on their likes on their profiles list. If a partner of mine has swap cards or addy labels on their wish list then I try to make one set for them which gives them 30 addy labels or 10 swap cards sometimes a combination of both. Here's the latest that I made for myself.

I so so so so love cupcake and even though am a total klutz in the kitchen so cooking and baking are a major NO-NO but looking at cupcake stickers, notecards, ribbons and die cuts for scrapbooking, journals, amigurumis, would just make me giddy. lol. So I made this card for my tags, I have a different one for my swaps. *sigh* kawaii cupcake is just soo sooo cute!

A Wonderful Birthday Gift

This is one of the many parcels I got from the main post office yesterday ... its from Bobbie [Lavender72004 via swap-bot] and at first I thought she was to send to me in one of the swaps I'm in but I was very surprised to find these instead.

She sent me this lovely figurine alongside a birthday card ... it was a total surprise and I love it. I adore it! It actually got me teary-eyed, it was the surprise of a lifetime ... a gift from a beautiful stranger and so totally unexpected. Thanks much Bobbie!

Missent to Thailand. Can You Imagine??

Sometime in October, I had a private swap with Cari [CariahCreates at swap-bot] and she has received my package quite sometime ago but I still hadn't received hers till yesterday. We both sent our respective packages on October 9, 2009 and she received and rate me on October 27, 2009. When I went to the main post office yesterday one of the 13 packages for me was a white box from Cari and I was ecstatic. At first I thought it was the stuff I bought from ebay but boy I was wrong. On the box was a stamp which says "MISSENT TO THAILAND", can you imagine??? Philippines and Thailand sure are spelled differently and I cannot understand why it was sent there. Lets take a look at them ...

Opening the box made me really really giddy with happiness yohooo! I now have cute pink and brown ribbons for my scrapbooking. So so cute, plus the handmade bracelet from Cari sure is a wonderful birthday present, though am allergic to accessories [most of the time] but this is surely one accessory am never gonna let go. So so nice. Thanks much Cari! You are one wonderful and awesome swapper.

I am a certified Pink-a-ho-lic as I adore this color way too much. Hehehe so I joined the Pink Swap via swap-bot and my partner has sent this wonderful goodies my way.

I just hosted a private swap between myself and Charlotte via swap-bot.com, she loves Hello Kitty and anything kawaii in general while I love Diddl so in exchange for Diddl goodies I will send her Hello Kitty and other stuff. I've taken a photo of it below, was rather excited about it, will mail it later together with all the envies for my tags.

I've packed these goodies in 2 envelopes, one large for the paper things [stickers, notebooks, letterset] and 1 smaller bubble wrap envelope for the deco tapes, ballpen, sharpeners and cellphone charms. I hope she'll like what I've assembled for her.

Reality took over and I have been rather depressed and busy as of late ... *sigh* I will be assembling my envies for my swaps starting tomorrow, need to get my act together. Had a lot of fantastic swaps going on at swap-bot and I am hoping that come Monday, I will come home to find several envies waiting for me.

I am close to finishing my swap-bot organizer ... and I am quite excited about it. Will post photos of it as soon as it is completely done. Whew!

This arrived last Thursday and I was really really happy. I got a bunch of fbs from Bev, a surprise package from Elizabeth ... it was called a friendship fun pack filled with fbs, label bags, stickers and what not. It was a random thing and she must have gotten my addy from one of the many fbs passing around the world. Letter Pads - International

I've been a member at swap-bot for well over a month now and have completed more than 10 snail mail swaps [I don't participate in email swaps] and have been been rated in more than 10 swaps already. The pain of being a newbie, where most of the swaps are just not for you is finally over. I'm taking a rather bold step in organizing my first ever public swap [I've created two private swaps already] and am crossing my fingers that this will go well.

I love writing and I send out close to 50 envies on a weekly basis [going everyday to the post office is just killing me] so I almost always run out of papers to write on.

So this swap is for those who love writing and letter pads in general. Letter pads are those bundle of cute papers with no envies [usually one pad has around 50 sheets]. You will have 2 partners in this swap and you will send 3 letter pads to each, a total of 6 letter pads all in all. Please don't send 3 pads with one design [that's totally boring!], make it a variety. This is going to be sender's choice but of course feel free to check out your partner's profile for hints.

You must have participated in at least 10 snail mail swaps. No recent NO SENDS, a rating of 4.7 or higher and a completely filled out profile. I will be checking out profiles manually before assigning partners and will ban anyone who seems unable to complete the swap. As a swapper here on swap-bot it is your responsibility to rate fairly and on time.

I was getting really frustrated when Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday came without any mail for me. Usually the postman would drop by around 10AM to 11AM but he didn't drop by during those days and I was worried, either nobody sent me anything [crossing my fingers I won't get flaked on at swap-bot] or they got lost somewhere in the Pacific [lol]. But last Thursday he arrived with a bunch of mails for me [10 or more envies] he said some did arrive on Monday but he waited and decided to just drop them off all at once!

Bad bad bad ... but I guess that's loads better than having to received nothing at all. So there you go here are the mails I got.

Did I mention am addicted to swap-bot??? Well there yeah go ... I am addicted to it and the post office lady said my vice is very very costly, I just grinned lol. Also I found another site ... sendsomething.net someone posted it on swap-bot on one of the swaps and I checked it out. I liked it immediately lol, so I registered and created my profile. It's not as advanced as swap-bot but it's fun coz you click on Random Address then you'd be presented with a random profile with the address and you could send that person anything! It's definitely a group for people who love getting random mails from strangers.

I already have a few addresses to send postcards too ... will mail them on Monday.

This was a postcard I got from a penpal way back 2005 from Poland ... we drifted and I can no longer remember who stopped writing. But I still have all of her letters and maybe one day I'd write her again, hopefully it won't be returned back to me like all the others. But this postcard is one of my absolute faves, I love castles old and new ... must be because it's not available here ... you'd always want something you don't have.

Tuesday Surprise

I got home around 11:30 AM after a 9 hour excrutiating shift ...*sigh* I don't like my work truth be told but giving that up would be like committing suicide ... so I stayed. I cannot wait for the clock to strike 10:3o AM so I could log off and go home it's one of the things I look forward to everyday ... coming home to find a postcard or an envie waiting for me.

Got home and my uncle placed on my computer table 2 "naked" postcards and 1 rather large envelope, I smiled. I was right ... penpalling and swapping is definitely a great stress reliever! Let's see what I got!!!

See the two postcards? Both are from the group swaps I participated in swap-bot; Sender's Choice Postcard both were from USA. In this particular swap we were given 6 partners that we have to send one naked postcard to each so a total of 6 and in return we'd receive 6 postcards as well. So far I got two and am looking forward to the other four.

Then notice that large brown package at the back? That is from Spain from a new found friend via Friends Circle. She sent me a bunch of FB's and this really big and thick Diddl Letter Pad. So so so nice! Thanks much Estela, my envie for you will be posted tomorrow.

I am addicted to swapping and tagging I am almost always present on the Tags Forum at swap-bot. hehehehe. Oh see the big envie at the back??? Thats the very first big envie I've sent out either and thats for Anais in Paris, one of the things on her wishlist is a sketchpad heheheh and that made it big ...

Chocolate Hills : PFF

Here goes another round of Postcard Friendship Friday and for this week my entry would be another one from the Philippines.

The Chocolate Hills in Bohol. This is the major attraction in the province of Bohol and one of the many attractions in the country. When I was like 6 years old in my first grade we had this reading book full of children's stories and one of the stories there which I just can't get out of my head is that of the Chocolate Hills. In the story it was said that long time ago there lived a giant, he was a good mighty giant and the people loved him, he was the guardian of the hills. The townspeople would go to his home with a pail and a small bundle of food for the giant and in return they'll have their pails filled with choco goodness.

News of the abundant chocolate reached far and wide that people from other towns flock the area asking for chocolates in a very greedy and aggressive manner. The good giant became very angry and one night left the town close the doors of his home and turned the hills into nothing but hard dark solid soil.

Well there goes the story I guess you'd be able to figure out the rest of the ending ... all during those time I really thought that the Chocolates Hills were really made of chocolate and I kept telling my mom if only people weren't bad we could have had some, she was kind enough not to burst the bubble of an overly imaginative 6 year old. Over time I did grew out of it realizing that the story was nothing but a work of fiction.

Last 2007 I visited the place with a friend and it brought back the story to mind which made me smile the entire time I was there. The hills changed colors, during the summer its colored green and during the wet or rainy season it's all dark chocolate brown thus deriving its name.

There yah go, hope you guys enjoy my entry for this week.

When I got home after having dinner with MJ I was shocked to see an email on my inbox from swap-bot.com; Banned from Swap Notification. Huhuhuhuhu Checked on it and logged unto my swap-bot account and saw the message of the coordinator. She banned me from the swap because they need seasoned participants who already has 5 ratings. *sigh* one of the many frustrations of being a newbie, my bad actually for not reading thoroughly the entire mechanics of the swap. From now on I vow to only join swaps that are newbie friendly.

I posted 5 envies earlier after work together with one naked postcard. The people at the post office were like ... didn't you just mail a couple of envies last week? I did but that was for other stuff or shall I say for other people??? tugs!

The ones I mailed earlier were for the group swap I joined in swap-bot, deadline for posting is still on the 30th but I wanna get it done earlier so that I'll one room for joining in another swap. Someone from the site did mention that it's going to be very addictive and I guess she's right coz am getting hooked.

I still have three more swaps to complete, the next deadline is on the 5th of October, as for the other two, partners we're not assigned yet. I've messaged the people at swap-bot informing them that I've mailed their stuff already and that to let me know once they get them.

As for me, an envie did arrive from Michelle ... we met via a Friendship/Swappers group in Facebook and her envie contained fb's and one handwritten note. Love it!

Will get back to her by the end of the week ... I just hope more envies would come my way tomorrow.

Custom Labels

MJ, has been asking me to create address labels for her and since I was not really doing anything specific that time, I created one for her. She said she wants twilight design so I went scrouring the web for a good picture. Found one and here's what I've done.

Sent the file to her email so she can print them, a couple of weeks back we went scouring the bookstore for paper products. I created another for myself check it out below:

Pleasant Surprise : PFF

When I arrived home yesterday after work I found this postcard amongst other mails waiting for me. At first glance I thought it was a postcard sent through postcrossing but when I took a closer look at it looking for the ID number there was none. Read the message and I was very surprise that it came from Chris Overstreet of Wild Postcards and Girls Go Postal. He was the very first to comment on my first entry for PFF.

It has the French stamp on it and a French inscription, Chris said on his message that the building behind the garden which is the Louvre used to be a palace. It's really pretty, wohooo another beautiful addition to my collection.

I did mention am a newbie at swap-bot right? Well there are several people there who were kind enough to organize swaps intended for newbies like me to get started and get ratings that would enable us to join on other swaps and to increase the number of swaps we can join at a time. For newbies you are only allowed to join in 5 group swaps at one time ... and I've joined in all five!

I just got home actually from the post office, today I've managed to mail the following:

- letter and a postcard to Tanja in Germany

- postcard in an envie for Janet in the US

- postcard in an envie for Leslie in the US

- envie containing a letter and fbs to Joy in the US

- an envie with 5 store bought postcards to my partner in the group swap "Postcards In An Envelope #3"

Somehow over the cours3e of my constant visit to the post office I've befriended and the in

charge and she'd smile everytime I drop by to mail my letters. I still have on going 4 group swaps and am still assembling the envies for each one them, sometimes a group swap is involves 6 partners to send to which means that for that swap you'd receive 6 random envies too. Whew!! Am looking forward to receiving mine in the next couple of days.

Stationary Collection

During my rest day, I was able to sort out my letter sets which I've had since I was in grade school. I've been collection stationaries since I was 9 years old and because we've never moved houses all of them are still in tact. Mom used to say I'd grow out of them but I haven't up till now and am 23 turning 24 lol guess some hobbies do remain with you even when you grow old.

I have cute notepads, cute writing pads the ones that didn't have any envies with them and I also have complete sets still safely tucked in their plastics. Heheheeh Everytime I go to a bookstore and see cute sets I cannot help but buy ... they're just so cute and adorable.

Festival Deco

I just finished designing my page on this deco and I'll be passing this along within the week. It wasn't that difficult hehehe the theme's about a festival, any sort of festival and for my page I chose to put a picture of the Sinulog festival. It's an annual mardi gras celebration here in the city every 3rd Sunday of January, the streets would be filled with dancers in wonderful and colorful costumes and tourists and natives alike would flock the vicinity. Am looking forward to next year's festival am sure it'll be just as colorful as the previous years.

While browsing online searching for fb swappers and penpals, I run into a cute site: friendshipbooklets.org where swappers and penpallers can post their ads. I saw quite a few people and sent them an email expressing my interest in swapping fbs, decos, label bags and what have you with them. I did that the other night and am glad that one of them responded. Bev from Virgina responded to my email and at the moment I am assembling my envie for her. In the envie I've assembled, I have enclosed 4 established fbs and 3 new ones that I have created for my pals and for myself and I've included 6 sheets of cute notepads. Will get this mailed today together with 3 other letters for friends. :) Post office opens at 9AM, will do my grocery after mailing these stuff then.

Sorry, its minda messy ... thats my workstation/computer table ...on the left side sits my laptop and on the far left my two portable hard disk drives (1TB and 320GB) and on the far right would be my all in one printer. Waaaaaaaa will clean up later lol.

While browsing online looking for swap buddies I run into swap-bot.com and decided to give it a try. I found out that it's one massive community for swappers, penpallers, digital artists, scrapbookers alike. It was kinda overwhelming and I found it difficult to join in swaps as I am a newbie and almost all of the hosted swaps require that each participant has to have at least a certain amount of rating. :(

Kinda sad actually but there are also kind enough veterans who opened the swaps to newbies but they'll manually check on the profile first and decide whether or not that newbie can join. Hopefully I can, am looking forward to swapping a bunch of stuff with these beautiful people.

I was bloghopping when I found this meme scheduled every Friday and its called Postcard Friendship Friday and decided to join. Ever since I started penpalling and swapping I've been collecting stamps and postcards from other countries. So for my very first entry I will post a postcard from my very own native land hehehe.

I have this affinity for old churches and castles and though we literally don't have any old castles here but looking at them online always got me wistful. The postcard above is of Cebu Metropolitan Cathedrals, one of the oldest churches here in my city.

I have been terribly busy as of late and the number of envies I received are all piling up. So now am going through each one of them aside from the bills I got quite a handful of fb's, decos and label bags from pen pals all over. Due to the number of fbs I've received I ran out of address labels and took sometime in googling for cute printable graphics that I can use to create

my labels. Thank God for freebies I landed on this wonderful site offering tons of adorable printable graphics. On the left is a sample of what I've created and I used the label template readily available for download from Graphic Garden, do check out the site and am sure you'll fall in love with the items available. There are printable stationeries, bookmarks, envelopes, recipe cards, note papers and a whole lot more.

Stationeries

Girls as girls can be collects stuff and like most girls I started collecting letter sets since 3rd grade and have been collecting ever since. Back then what was in were those letter sets of Beauty and the Beast, Cinderella and Snow White, well from Walt Disney that is and I've had my own set stashed away in my box of random something. Hehehehe so every time I pay a visit to a bookstore apart from going home with a book or two I also take along a letter set or two sometimes three depends really on what catches my fancy.
I used them to write my letters for my pen friends worldwide even though I have a printer and quite well verse with Microsoft Word it seems more personal to me when letters are written by hand. So if you check my drawers you'd see one level full of pens in various colors some plain other glittery and two or three levels full of letter sets another one a stack of various postcards ready to send away.

Am a fan of letters literally, I mean I love to write and to correspond with people from all over the world and then swap postcards and stamps when applicable. Started the hobby of snail mail and penpals when I was still in high school, it was fun. I get to correspond with girls from Asia, US and Europe, they sent me all these really nice postcards from their countries as well as cute calling cards. Quite a variety actually and they're all nice and colorful.

Somewhere in college I stopped not because I wanted to but because of financial constraints, postage to Europe and the US increased quite significantly and with my needs in school, books, projects and all that I stopped for a couple of years.

But now am back for good. It's a hobby I somehow can't outgrow.

I took this info from wikipedia.com, am too lazy to come up with my own explanation. lol So here it goes:

Friendship books (also known as "FBs" in their abbreviated form) are small booklets made by stapling paper together, or are sometimes just sheets or strips of paper. They are usually decorated and the person who starts the book writes their name and address as the first person sending the book. People often include a list of interests as well. The FB is then passed around from penpal to penpal, and can often also become a way for one to meet new penpals. Most people hope to see the book again once it is full so they add their return address to the back cover of the book too, or inscribe "Return to Sender" on it. People also sometimes make FBs for someone else rather than themselves, in which case they write the name and address of the recipient on the front/at the top. Some people find friendship books fun because you can see where they have been in a trail back to the original sender/recipient.
The German friendship books (or poetry albums) serve a similar purpose but are kept, not sent away. Access is considered more intimate; sometimes the book even has a lock. The information given about oneself often includes quotations, poetry and worldly wisdom. Typically they are more like shared journals between two best friends or a couple and are kept at ones of their houses.
Friendship books that require entrants to make drawings, use stickers or magazine photographs are known as "deco" friendship books or just simply "decos". Typically, each entrant in the "deco" must use one full page to express themselves. Glitter, sequins, feathers and other scrapbooking supplies are frequently used in "decos." Despite the artistic expressions used in these types of friendship books, the basic rules of passing the friendship book to person to person is the same.
When a 'friendship book' is only one page (no staples), it's called a 'friendship sheet.' If the page is small, like the size of a postcard, or smaller, it's called a 'cram.' Friendship books that have a musical theme, where you have to add lyrics to your entry, are called "lyrics" or "lyrics sheets".

Slams - are friendship books that include a theme of questions, either "Sign if you did/like the following", "What is your favorite" or other similar questions. These usually include one page as a "sign in", several pages of questions, and then a "sign out" or "shout out" page at the end. Slams can be themed or regular. Typically they are usually small like a standard friendship book. Often they have a "sign-in" page where you put your label or name, then each page will often contain a question which you answer (i.e. When was the last time you said "I love you") and the signer would write the appropriate response. At the end there is often a sign-out page as well where it's dated. Slams have many variations and can be "sign if" slams (you sign only if the statement or question applies to you). These are handled in a number of ways, but most of them become more clear when you have it in-hand.

Crams - are like friendship sheets or book, but no one includes any personal information. The idea (as the name implies) is to "cram" as many names and addresses into the provided space.

Deco - are similar to FBs, but are often larger in size. The cover is often decorated with interesting materials like magazine pictures, rubber stamps, decorative papers, and other embellishments. Each person who signs decorates a full page in the book. Sometimes the book has a theme, for example cats. Then, each person decorates their page following the theme. As with FBs, when these are full, they are sent home to the person for whom the book was made.

Lyrix - are much like decos except that each page is decorated using lyrics from a song. Some are more plain with the words simply written in them, others are as artistic as decos with pictures and other ornamental adornments.

A/A = Answers All
A/O = Answers Only
A/S = Answers Some
A/M - Answers Most
AVF = Answers Very Few
ICR = I Can Return (meaning this person can return the friendship book back to the owner)
LLP = Long Letter Pal (meaning this person is looking for pals that will send lengthy letters)
N&N FBS = Nice and Neat Friendship Books
NSW = New Swappers Wanted
NPW = New Pen Pals Wanted
